The tools and techniques you need to train your dog.

Dog training is all about communication and consistency. We'll teach you how to communicate with your dog in a language it understands, teach your dog what "No" means, and empower you to hold your dog accountable. Having a well behaved and obedient dog is entirely possible with the right guidance.

A well behaved dog is truly life changing

Here is what our clients are saying.

Unbelievable.

I was shocked at how fast Brian fixed the leash pulling. I think it literally took less than 2 minutes.

Dan

My dog is so easy now.

It's so nice to have control of my dog. He listens to me, respects me, and it's made life so much more fun.

Cindy

Magic... Or black magic.

Seeing my dog so peaceful is like a weight off my shoulders. I knew my dog was stressing me out, but I didn't know what to do about it. Now I do.

Meet Brian

I've had an interesting life... I've been a bridge designer, personal trainer, massage therapist, English teacher, programmer, and now, a dog trainer. I've lived in several countries and enjoyed learning about all of their unique cultures.

Across all of my experiences, I've learned that the thing I enjoy most is helping others. The joy I see when a person can finally relax and enjoy their dog instead of constantly stressing about every aspect of its existence has one of my greatest pleasures.

Like most people, I started training dogs to better control my own. I had two 150lb dogs and one needed a lot of work. Watching her transform from a nervous, aggressive dog into the calm lover she was under all of that made me fall in love with training.

Once my friends saw the transformation, they started asking for help with their own pets and Centered Dog Pet Training was born.

Frequently asked questions

If you have anything else you want to ask, reach out to us.

  • What is your training philosophy?

Dogs are man's best friend, but friendship is a reciprocal relationship. We give our dogs all the love, food, shelter, and protection so that they give their love and enjoyment. They also need to behave and obey us to make our friendship fair. We believe our dogs deserve the best life possible and includes structure, boundaries, and consequences for bad behavior.

  • What tools do you use?

The short answer is any tool that works. What we've found works best are the tools that allow us to most effectively communicate with dogs. These include: food rewards, prong collars, e-collars, bonkers, crates, and toys. We use a lot of positive reinforcement, but we also make it clear that making bad choices will be uncomfortable. We use all of our tools fairly and spend hundreds of repetitions teaching dogs to understand the messages we send them.

  • How do e-collars work?

There is a lot of fear associated with e collars these days. They seem like a very scary tool, but they are really just a tool to communicate with our dogs. The e-collars that we train on have a range of 100 intensity levels to choose from and we select the lowest number possible that the dog understands. We find a level that feels like a tickle to the dog and then teach them how to turn the tickle off. It's, in fact, a very gentle way to communicate with the dog without a leash.

  • What kind of problems do you work with?

We've worked with dogs that have had any problem you can think of. Leash reactivity and pulling, separation anxiety, barking, lunging, disobedience, dog aggression, and biting are all problems we've worked through with dogs. The biggest key we've found in solving problems is adding structure and boundaries to the dog's life. Rewarding good behavior and making unwanted behavior uncomfortable along with great structure solves most problems very quickly.

  • How soon will I see results?

We expect massive results after a single session. If you don't say, "Wow," after the first hour, we're doing something wrong. That said, it does take time and consistency for the lessons to stick and become habit for the dog, so follow through on your part is going to be vital to yours and the dog's long term success.

  • What is the benefit of your board and train program?

The biggest advantage of the board and train program is the consistency. When your dog is with us, it won't get away with anything. It will get hours of dedicated training per day and will have constant structure the rest of the time. Even play time will be structured. We can show you what to do in a one-on-one session, but then you are left with practicing it hundreds of times. When your dog is with us, we'll take care of all of that for you.

  • What is the guarantee with the Walk Mastery option?

If we can't stop the leash reactivity and pulling in the single session, you won't pay a thing. Your dog will still need practice and your consistency with the techniques we show, but it will understand what it is supposed to do by the time we leave.

  • Are there any dogs you won't work with?

Nope! We work with all breads, sizes, and problems. We've trained dogs that are less than 10 pounds all the way to 150+ pound great Danes.

  • What will I need to do?

Consistency at home after the training is key to long term success. So many dogs we see have no structure at home and that will need to change. At least a few minutes of daily practice will be very important the first few months. Crating your dog at night and when you're away is a life changing step for most owners. Staying consistent with the commands and enforcing them is also vital. Having a well behaved dog does require work. Not a ton and less as time goes on, but you will have to put in some time to make sure your dog is successful.
